My name is Skylar Cannon, and I am currently a fourth-year at the University of Georgia. In Spring 2026, I’ll graduate with bachelors degrees in health promotion and philosophy. I’ll earn two minors as well– one in law and ethics, and the other in health policy and management. I’m interested in global health policy, biomedical ethics, and emergency preparedness. In the future, I want to work with an international organization in policy research and humanitarian responses.
Outside of my academics, I’m a lead ambassador for the Active Learning department at the university, and am working on research with the Institute for Disaster Management on how student researchers relate to their environment.
When I’m not working on policy memos or solving ethical dilemmas, you can usually find me in front of a chess board studying opening theory, or in the library searching for a new book to read. My favorite chess openings are the Trompowsky and Ruy Lopez. I’m passionate about traveling as well— while at UGA, I’ve done three study abroads, and have been to 50+ countries on all continents but Antartica.
